SNC Sportsmanship Summit 2015

10 Heartland students attended the SNC Sportsmanship Summit in McCool Junction on September 23rd.  This event featured leadership speakers, collaborative activities, and team building challenges.  At times the students were put into groups with students from different schools.  Communication and teamwork were emphasized throughout the day.

In the photos, students are playing a Poly Spot game.  One student was the "communicator" while the others were blindfolded.  While blindfolded, the students had to find Poly Spots in numerical order from 1-6 and bring them home.  Only the "communicator" was allowed to look at the playing area during this activity.

In the activity "Paper Tower", students were given one piece of paper, a meter of masking tape and a pair of scissors.  The goal was to erect the tallest, free standing, tower made from the materials given in 10 minutes.

In the final activity, "Catcher's Mitt", each team (school) was given 10 bendable straws, 2 feet of masking tape and a golf ball.  The goal of each team was to create a device that would 'catch' a golf ball dropped from eye level.

We all had a great time, learned some valuable lessons about leadership and building and changing culture at our school. We also developed some leadership qualities.  We all would like to thank our administration for allowing us to attend such a beneficial conference.
