Heartland FBLA attends State Leadership Conference

    Thirty-five Heartland FBLA members attended the Nebraska State Leadership Conference in Omaha on April 7-9.  Fourteen students won 19 awards during the three-day conference.  Students attending the conference along with adviser Kristy Most were:  (Seniors) Destiny Bloxton, Jason Burhoop, Jule Dane, Camryn Dick, McKenna Friesen, Haley Huebert, Katelyn Janzen, Rebekah Larson, Bailey Monnier, Brendan Ortiz, Jose Romo, Dillon Scheil, Eve Vanderneck and Owen Wurst; (Juniors) Leslie Braun, Kristine Goertzen, Ethan Hall, Megan Kroeker, Mark Perez, Ellie Steingard and Brooke Weisheit; (Sophomores) Aaron Buller, Sadie Carr, Hayes Oswald, Kristan Perez, Bailey Peters, Brittany Quiring, Jaden Regier and Isabelle Vanderneck; and (Freshmen) Carson Amack, Kodjo Atikpohou, Kate Bergen, Audric Bulin, Colton Monnier and Kristina Rowe. 

    The keynote speaker of the Opening Session was Rhett Laubach.  His keynote message encouraged, inspired and challenged the audience to live in the big world of others instead of the little world of self.  He addressed the joys of being a leader who knows how to help, serve and support the people and activities in our lives.

    The leadership conference was filled with testing, presenting and job interviewing.  At the Friday evening Second General Session, the following students won Honorable Mention awards which recognized those who placed in the top 4% of each competitive event: 

    Jason Burhoop – Personal Finance

    Haley Huebert – Economics

    Eve Vanderneck – Health Care Administration

    Aaron Buller – Accounting I, Introduction to Business and Introduction to Business

    The top eight winners in each event were announced at the Awards Program on Saturday morning.  The students who placed in the top three in each event will represent Nebraska at the National Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, this summer.  The following students won top eight awards: 

1st place

2nd place

    Brittany Quiring – Word Processing

3rd place

    Eve Vanderneck – Business Communications and Job Interview
