FBLA Members Honored at Commissioner's Recognition

Commissioner of Education Matt Blomstedt, Ethan Hall, Haley Huebert, Lieutenant Governor Mike Foley, and Owen Wurst.

The Nebraska Department of Education hosted a Commissioner’s Recognition for Student Excellence in Career Education on November 14 in the Rotunda of the State Capitol.  Lieutenant Governor Mike Foley and Commissioner of Education Matt Blomstedt presented the awards to the national winners in each of Nebraska’s career student organizations.

The Heartland Entrepreneurship Team of Ethan Hall, senior at Heartland Community Schools, Haley Huebert, freshman at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, and Owen Wurst, freshman at Creighton University received an award for placing fourth in the nation in Entrepreneurship at the 2016 FBLA National Leadership Conference in Atlanta this past summer.  This event recognizes FBLA members who demonstrate the knowledge and skills needed to establish and manage a business.  In addition to learning business decision-making skills, team participants apply these skills when they present the team’s solution to an entrepreneurial case study before a panel of business professionals.

A reception at the Governor’s Mansion followed the Awards Ceremony.  Also attending the Commissioner’s Recognition were Daphne Hall, Jerry and Pam Huebert, Greg and Amy Wurst, Principal Tim Carr and FBLA Adviser Kristy Most.
