Junior High Volleyball Begins Season

Launch the media gallery 1 player - media #3The Heartland Junior High Volleyball Team hosted Fillmore Central for the first games of their season on August 31.
The "B" Team played first but lost two sets with scores of 16-25 and 14-25.
A "C" Team set was then played for additional experience. In that set, the Huskies beat the Panthers 18-16.
For the "A" Team game, the Huskies were able to win both sets with a score of 25-23 and 25-21.
This year the team has 10 seventh graders and eight eighth graders coached by Carrie Regier and Tara Maltsberger.
Coach Regier explained that the team only had nine practices before the first game, so there is a plethora of skills to cover. Along with fundamentals, they must work on rotations, serve receiving, serving formations, how to substitute, etc. While it can be overwhelming, the girls have met the challenges with positive attitudes. The eighth graders have also been strong role models.
As for the strengths in this year's team, she commented, "So far I have seen really good passing form and an eagerness to fix problems with form. We also have some strong servers."
"As coaches, obviously we want to win more games than we did last season, however, we really want the girls to enjoy the game of volleyball and strive to get better each day. We want to see them improve on setting the ball up and having successful attacks at the net."
The next junior high volleyball game will be Thursday, September 7, at Superior.
