FBLA Members Attend Fall Leadership Conference

The Nebraska FBLA Fall Leadership Conference was held September 23 in Kearney.  This conference was a one-day workshop for FBLA officers and members to learn about the state goals.  This year’s state theme is “STEP UP TO THE CHALLENGE.”

The 2014-15 state goals spell out CLIMB.  Community:  promote the Community Service Awards, implement the Connect with Business program, contribute to Feed Nebraska, Tally It Up to 30,000 service hours and participate in the Go Green Challenge.  Leadership:  Increase participation in the Business Achievement Awards, develop a parliamentary procedure handbook, create a resource about resumes and cover letters, publish a secretary guide for minutes and participate in Money Smart Week.  Involvement:  Raise $10,500 for the Nebraska FBLA Foundation, donate $20,000 to the March of Dimes, add 5 event sponsors recruited by chapters, compile a state and national program guide and recognize 10 Chapter Challenge recipients.  Membership:  Increase membership to 5,700 members, charter or re-activate 5 chapters, charter 1 middle level chapter, establish a member mentorship program, design an SLC survival guide and organize Quiz Bowl questions for chapters.  Broadcast:  Utilize Remind 101, host a webinar, recognize chapters completing the Step Up 2 Tech project and author an FBLA Week resource guide.

The keynote speaker at the general session was Jonathan Sprinkles from Texas.  His presentation was titled, “Be the One.”  He encouraged FBLA members to rise to the occasion and get others to follow their lead and to gain visibility and influence to positively impact their chapter’s future.  Following the general session, the officers and members attended individual workshops on getting involved with FBLA, the Foundation, Program of Work and March of Dimes.
