Heartland FBLA Members Participate in Virtual State Leadership Conference

2021 State Leadership Conference

    Thirty-six Heartland FBLA members participated in the Nebraska State Leadership Conference virtually on April 14.  Students participating in the conference along with adviser Kristy Most were: (Seniors) Kaelyn Buller, Tobin Glinsmann, Ellyn Hall, Cooper Regier, Wyatt Regier and Gabi Siebert; (Juniors) Ashley Brown, Cindy Cerveny, Ella Friesen, Elizabeth Mestl, Dawson Ohrt, Mason Regier, Abigael Stebbing and Kale Wetjen; (Sophomores) Liliana Alvarez, Tucker Bergen, Lilly Carr, Eloise Casper, Riley Goertzen, Savannah Hurlbut, Felicity Johnson, Owen Mierau, Trev Peters, Garett Regier and Ava Tessman; (Freshmen) Kaylee Goertzen, Hayden Mierau, Jordan Nolan, Naomi Onnen, Hunter Perez, Hudson Regier, Reese Regier, Ava Stebbing, Hendric Switzer, Mariah Tessman and Nick Thieszen. 

 

    The month of March was filled with online testing, finalizing projects, zoom job interviews, and virtual presentations which led up to our State Leadership Conference.  The one-day conference featured a keynote speaker, workshops on a variety of topics, FBLA trivia competition, installation of new state officers, and the Awards of Excellence program.  

 

    The keynote speaker of the Opening Session was Kent Julian.  He is from Lawrenceville, Georgia, but lived in Omaha for eight years.  His program was designed to inspire and equip his audience to SHOW UP AND SHINE in their life and leadership so that they can take 100 percent responsibility for their lives and live into their bigger stories.

 

    At the Awards of Excellence program, 14 students won 19 awards.  The following students won top eight awards:  

 

            1st place

                    Dawson Ohrt and Kale Wetjen – Sports and Entertainment Management

 

            4th place

                    Owen Mierau - Introduction to Business Procedures

            

            5th place

                    Kale Wetjen – Personal Finance

                    Kaylee Goertzen, Abigael Stebbing and Ava Stebbing – Graphic Design

                    Owen Mierau – Introduction to Business

 

            6th place

                    Dawson Ohrt – Personal Finance

 

            8th place

                    Ava Tessman – Client Service

 

    The following students won Honorable Mention awards which recognized those who placed in the top 4% of each competitive event:  

 

            Tobin Glinsmann – Semi-Finalist Job Interview

            Ellyn Hall – Semi-Finalist Job Interview

            Kaylee Goertzen – 9th place Word Processing

            Owen Mierau – 10th place Computer Applications

            Garett Regier – 10th place Accounting I

            Felicity Johnson – 11th place Accounting I

            Hendric Switzer – 13th place Introduction to Business

            Mariah Tessman – 14th place Introduction to Business

            Hendric Switzer – 14th place Introduction to Business Communication

            Nick Thieszen – 15th place Introduction to Business

            Ellyn Hall – 18th place Personal Finance
