Heartland Competes at UNL Math Day

Several Heartland scholars competed in the annual UNL Math Day competition on February 20 in Lincoln. The day consisted of each team competing head-to-head with teams from other schools. Each round had 12 math-based questions that had to be answered in 30 seconds or less. The teams were allowed to work together but were only able to give one answer.

Both of the Heartland teams competed in five rounds and both teams had winning records! The ranking of the 20 teams in our division was based on a scoring system that factored in not only wins and losses but also total points scored and margin of victory. After the five random matchups, both of the Heartland teams were tied with a score of 17. Unfortunately that put the teams one point out of the semifinals. Although that was disappointing, it was a great day.
