Ashley Quiring receives award at Commissioner's Recognition Ceremony

The Nebraska Department of Education hosted the Commissioner’s Recognition for Student Excellence in Career Education on November 21 in the Rotunda of the State Capitol.  Governor Dave Heineman and Deputy Commissioner of Education Dr. Scott Swisher presented the awards to students and congratulated them on their success.  Eight FBLA members that placed first, second or third at the National Leadership Conference in Orlando this past summer were honored.

Ashley Quiring, a junior at Heartland Community School, received an award for placing first in the nation in Accounting I.  The Accounting I test consisted of an objective test that focused on journalizing; account classification; terminology, concepts and practices; types of ownership; posting; income statement; balance sheet; worksheet; bank reconciliation; payroll; depreciation; manual and computerized systems; and ethics.

Future Business Leaders of America provides innovative leadership and career development programs for students interested in business administration, management, finance and information technology careers.  Over 5,300 students in 140 Nebraska secondary schools annually join Nebraska FBLA.  A reception at the Governor’s Residence followed the awards ceremony.

Also attending the ceremony were Lonnie and Lisa Quiring, Dr. Norm Yoder, Tim Carr and Kristy Most.
