HCS Veterans Program 2024

It was another special year of the Veterans Day Program at Heartland.

The morning began with a welcome from Mia H. and the high school choir singing the National Anthem.

This was followed by Mrs. Reinke announcing the elementary essay contest winners: Landon T. (3rd place), Adelaide B. (2nd place), and McKinley H. (1st place). Each student read their essay to the audience.

Next, the third and fourth graders sang a song of appreciation to the veterans. Winners of the elementary coloring contest were also announced.

Mr. Carr then presented the winners of the secondary essay contest: Tori T. (3rd place), Lakyn Q., (2nd place), and Ryker S. (1st place). Ryker conveyed the importance of recognizing both combat and non-combat veterans for their necessary roles.

Specific veterans were also acknowledged for their service, and the FFA began distributing metal signs to veterans.

"God Bless America" was sung by the whole assembly, and after a closing was given by Jamisen K. and Lydia J., the playing of taps and a moment of silence concluded the program.

Refreshments were available to the veterans and their guests in the cafeteria where the students enjoyed conversing with them.

Thank you to the Heartland National Honor Society and Mrs. Ruhl for facilitating the program and to Henderson State Bank for sponsoring the essay contest.
