HCS Holiday Drives Successful with Community Contributions

The Heartland Community Schools FBLA, FFA, and National Honor Society chapters wrapped up a very successful holiday service project on December 19. Thanks to the generous donations of toys, socks, lotions, non-perishable food items, and the additional monetary donations from the students, staff, and community members, the groups were able to help multiple local people.

HCS was able to donate nearly 150 new toys to Children's Hospital in Omaha. It's very rewarding to see the hospital workers come out to unload the vehicle with extra carts because they know that the suburban is full of toys.

On Saturday, December 6, 12 HCS students met to help decorate the doors of the residents at Legacy Square. Students and sponsors were also able to visit one evening and sing Christmas Carols with and for the residents.

On the last day before break, the Sock Drive donations were sorted and organized into 34 gift bags that included socks, snacks, lotions, puzzle books, and other goodies, and were delivered to Legacy Square to distribute to the residents.

In addition to the Legacy Square delivery, the HCS students sorted and organized non-perishable food items, cleaning supplies, and personal items, and were able to deliver to 32 local families. Each delivery also included an anonymously donated ham and Henderson Chamber Bucks to be used around town.

We extend a special thank you to McLean Beef in York for donating the sturdy boxes used for the food delivery and to the employees of Henderson Food Mart for reaching out and donating the surplus food items that arrived a few weeks ago. More thank yous go to the community members who graciously gave substantial monetary donations that were used to purchase additional items and the Chamber Bucks for each delivery. The students and sponsors of each organization are grateful to have been part of the whole project.

THANK YOU to everyone who contributed in some way!
